“My name is Miro. I am 25 years old, and I am a refugee from Yemen currently trapped in Egypt. For years, I have lived in the shadows, fleeing a family that considers my existence a disgrace and has repeatedly tried to “fix” me through violence and forced psychiatric intervention. Today, my situation has reached a breaking point. I am homeless, I am being hunted by my relatives, and the international systems meant to protect me have stalled.
Why Your Support is Urgent
In late 2025, I was vetted and approved for resettlement to the United States. I had my documents, I had my hope, and I was ready to finally live in peace. However, following the 2026 shifts in U.S. refugee policy and the near-total suspension of the resettlement program, my travel was cancelled. I am now one of thousands of “vetted but stranded” refugees with nowhere to go.
In Egypt, the situation for LGBTQ+ individuals and apostates has become increasingly dangerous. New digital surveillance laws have made it impossible for me to work or even seek help safely online. Because of my feminine appearance, I am regularly assaulted and bullied in the streets. I cannot find traditional work, and my family is actively searching for me to take me back to Yemen, where I would face certain death.”

We are raising a modest but life-saving amount to cover Miro’s basic survival for the next month. This is not a luxury fund, it is a shield against the streets.
- Rent for a Secure Space (120 USD): This provides a room with a locking door, keeping Miro hidden from the relatives who are tracking her.
- Food and Clean Water (160 USD): Basic nutrition to maintain her strength while she navigates her UNHCR case.
- Essential Medication (40 USD): Critical health supplies that she cannot access through public Egyptian hospitals due to discrimination.
- Internet, Transport, and Hygiene (80 USD): These costs allow Miro to stay connected to her legal team, move safely between locations, and maintain her dignity and health in hiding.

She has done the hardest part of the journey, staying alive against all odds. Now, she simply needs a community to stand behind her while we work on a long-term legal solution.
