A Safer Place for Georgina, but Not Yet a Permanent One – #2

[ 2 minutes to read]

Since our last update, Georgina’s journey has taken several unexpected turns. When we helped her relocate to Jordan to escape the growing danger in Lebanon—where her family had tracked her down—she was met with yet another obstacle. Upon arrival at the airport, Jordanian authorities refused her entry, leaving her stranded once more.

Determined to find a safe haven, we secured an alternative route, and she was able to fly to another country. She is now there on a tourist visa, which will need to be extended in 30 days. While the country where she is in does not offer permanent refugee status, it is a place where she can be more open about her identity and, crucially, much safer than before.

The Path Forward: Stability and Recognition

Now, our focus is on finding a permanent solution for Georgina. There are two possible paths forward:

  1. Relocation through UNHCR – Georgina has already initiated contact with UNHCR, and we are hopeful that this could lead to resettlement in a country where she can finally live without fear.
  2. Medical Treatment and Legal Gender Recognition – One of the biggest challenges Georgina faces is the legal threat from Egypt. Due to her intersex condition, which was made worse by severe abuse from her father, uncles, and their friends, Georgina has faced relentless discrimination and danger. With the right medical treatment, she could officially transition to female, allowing her to change her passport. This would be a critical step in preventing her forced return to Egypt, where she faces charges for avoiding military service—something she was never physically capable of doing.

How You Can Help

Georgina is in a safer place, but she is not yet safe. She still needs financial support to cover her basic living expenses, visa extensions, medical care, and eventual relocation. Our goal is to form a support group of 30 to 60 people who can contribute $10 to $20 a month to sustain her until she reaches stability.

This is a crucial moment. We have gotten her to a place where she is no longer in immediate danger, but the fight is not over. If you can, please consider joining Georgina’s support network. Your contribution could be the reason she finally finds the safety and dignity she deserves.

Thank you for standing with Georgina and ensuring that her story does not end in fear, but in freedom.
