Mira is a transgender woman who fled from Yemen to Egypt in search of safety. Two months ago, she left her hometown in Yemen and arrived in Egypt, but her struggle for security continues. Life in Egypt has proven to be challenging as well. Mira is still trying to establish stability and find peace amidst constant upheaval. She moves from house to house, worrying about how to afford rent and weekly groceries. There has been donations made, but it is not enough to keep her balanced enough, to do it on her own. As her status as a refugee makes it difficult to secure employment.

Mira is still trying to survive during her stay in Egypt, a country that’s not safe for LGBTQ+ individuals. Right now, she’s borrowing money from friends just to get by, with the hope of paying them back later through donations. But as long as she remains in Egypt, she’ll continue needing support.

Why your donations matter. Mira needs to cover the costs of her accommodation, visa, and administrative paperwork to eventually leave the country. Without help, she risks becoming homeless and completely without resources.

Because she’s a fugitive and has no legal documents, she’s unable to work. Her path to safety, hopefully in Canada, is still uncertain. It could happen this year, next year, or even take several years. She has recently attended two interviews with the French embassy concerning her application for humanitarian asylum in France and is still awaiting a response.

Mira urgently needs financial help to handle the necessary paperwork and travel to a safer country. The end goal is to reach $3000. Want to know more about Mira’s journey as a fugitive?
