Georgina’s Continued Journey: Seeking Stability Amid Uncertainty – #4

[ 2 minutes to read]

We’re deeply thankful to everyone who continues to follow and support Georgina, our courageous intersex friend from Egypt. Here’s the latest on her ongoing struggle for safety and stability:

Recent Developments:

Thanks to your generous support, Georgina was not deported. Unfortunately, we did not reach the funding goal required for her vital gender-confirming operation. To maintain her safety and avoid forced return to Egypt, Georgina moved to Vietnam on another short-term tourist visa. However, Vietnam is not a signatory of the UN refugee convention, meaning she cannot obtain permanent residency or stable protection there.

Georgina’s life now involves continuously moving from one country to another every few months, waiting on the UNHCR to relocate her to a safe and permanent country. This ongoing instability profoundly impacts her health, with fluctuations in her HIV treatment and hormone therapy.

Current Needs:

Georgina’s immediate hope remains her gender-confirming surgery. Completing this operation would significantly reduce her risk of being forcibly sent back to Egypt, where she faces severe persecution and mandatory military conscription.

As Georgina’s struggle may continue for some time, we’re looking to establish a dedicated support group. Your small monthly donations—just €5 or €10—can ensure she covers her basic living expenses. Additionally, one-time contributions will directly build toward the funding necessary for her medical procedure.

Gratitude and Call for Continued Support:

Georgina remains incredibly grateful for every contribution made. Your ongoing involvement not only sustains her physically but provides essential emotional encouragement during this uncertain period.
